Stay in the Know

We are a non-partisan, diverse group of Milford citizens–parents, non-parents, life-long residents and transplants–who have joined together to create a network of communication and advocacy on issues affecting the quality of public school education in Milford CT.

Our plan is to focus on building relationships — with parents, teachers, administrators, political leaders, and our Board of Education and communicate concerns in effective ways.

Our Mission Priorities

1) Community Organization: The best and most effective community organizing is through individual and community meetings. Our mission is to develop a format for doing these meetings well, and consistently invite our community into conversations to establish a network of informed and engaged advocates.

2) Collaboration: Building collaborative relationships with parents, teachers, administrators, political leaders, and our Board of Education is critical as we strive to gain understanding of our current system and discern areas of focus over time. We believe in the importance of respectful and civil discourse based on a mutual understanding that we all want high performing schools in our community, and we all play an important role in achieving this outcome.

3) Communication: Effective communication is essential to fostering continued community engagement of our constituents. MilfordEd Advocates will strive to keep citizens informed of issues affecting our schools, and opportunities for advocacy through updates on social media, email messages, and our website.

4) Advocacy: MilfordEd Advocates will communicate concerns to elected representative and encourage advocacy among constituents.

5) Accountability: The push for accountability — holding schools, districts, educators, and students responsible for results — has been the driving force behind recent state mandates including increased standardized tests and comprehensive teacher evaluations. MilfordEd Advocates will evaluate these accountability measures, their results, and their impact on our community.
