Education Funding and Municipal Elections

In light of upcoming elections, we’ve been getting a lot of questions recently about the vote for $1.65 million in restored education funding earlier this year.

In response, weโ€™ll refer back to our statements from May, linked below. To put it simply – Milford residents showed up and stood together for education, leading to bipartisan funding support.

On May 22nd we said โ€œThank you to the Milford community โ€“ to everyone who lent their voice, time and energy.

We stood united for Milford schools and it made a difference with $1.65 million in restored funding!

Thank you to the Board of Aldermen for doing your due diligence and listening to the issues raised by residents and business owners. Last night we saw bipartisan and unanimous support for funding Milford schools!

Thank you Superintendent Cutaia for your vision and leadership.

Thank you to the Board of Education for championing our schools and shepherding through a sensible budget proposal. โ€ฆโ€

๐Ÿ‘‰ But that’s not the end of this story . . .

Since then, we’ve organized meetings and tables at farmerโ€™s markets and community events, attended both political conventions, and contacted both party leaders to organize candidate forums with community-sourced questions. Residents engaged in MPS events to discuss Milford’s future educational needs. We reviewed space studies and enrollment data. All underscore the importance of continued advocacy for valued school programming, support for counselors and social workers, and long-awaited capital renovations for school buildings.

๐Ÿ‘The vote by the Board of Aldermen for $1.65 million in restored education funding saved our schools in May.

๐Ÿ—ณ Now, your vote as Milford citizens on November 7 is what matters most for our schools.

To help you make an informed decision, we’ve compiled a single resource with links to all available candidate information, forums, and questionnaires.
